Undergraduate Engineering & IT Study
Engineering Majors
The Engineering program at Melbourne has been designed to reflect the evolving needs of both industry and the modern student. To become a professionally accredited engineering students now complete five years of study, comprising a three-year undergraduate degree with an engineering major, followed by a two-year Master of Engineering.
IT Majors
You can choose from one of three IT majors in the Bachelor of Science: Computing and Software Systems, Informatics or Geomatics. Alternatively you can undertake a concurrent Diploma in Informatics, or a breadth track of 3–6 IT subjects, as part of your undergraduate degree. Bachelor of Commerce
Subject sequences in the following Engineering areas:
- Bioengineering Systems 2
- Chemical Systems 2
- Civil Systems
- Software Systems
- Electrical Systems
- Mechanical Systems
- Environmental Engineering Systems (using the ‘Civil Systems’ pathway)
Bachelor of Science
Majors include:
Master of Engineering (2 years) — Specialisations
Exit to employment with professional accreditation or further research study
1. May also be a Bachelor’s degree from any university that includes Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra (or equivalents), along with science relevant to intended specialisation.
2. Please note that students undertaking sequences in Biochemical Systems and Chemical Systems in the Bachelor of Commerce will be required to complete a 2.5 year Master of Engineering.
