Graduate Entry English Language Requirements

All students studying at the University of Melbourne must satisfy the University of Melbourne English Language Entry Requirements.

For graduate entry, Engineering offers an alternative.

International Students: English Language Entry Requirements

For graduate coursework, the normal English language requirements are a minimum of:

  TOEFL IELTS (Academic) Computer TOEFL ITOEFL Pearson Test of English (Academic)
Overall 577 + TWE 4.5 6.5 (With no band less than 6) 233 + 4.5 essay writing 79 + Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading; 13; Listening 13 58–64 inclusive & no communicative skill below 50

The University of Melbourne English Language Bridging Program (UMELBP)

The UMELBP provides a direct English language pathway from Hawthorn-Melbourne to specific courses at the University of Melbourne. Students who have achieved an IELTS band 0.5 lower than their University of Melbourne course entry requirement may be able to proceed directly to their University studies upon successful completion of the UMELBP. More information is available from the Hawthorn Melbourne website.

Engineering English Language Alternative Entry for Graduate Coursework Students

Under the Engineering English Language Alternative Entry for graduates, coursework students may enrol in an English language program at the University — this may add another semester to your program. Requirements for entry into this alternative pathway are:
