Graduate Entry English Language Requirements
All domestic and international students studying at the University of Melbourne must satisfy the University of Melbourne English Language Entry Requirements.
For graduate coursework, if an English language test is required, you must achieve are a minimum of:

You must satisfy the requirements above in one sitting and the test must be have been taken within the last 24 months (2 years) preceding application.
Engineering Alternative Pathways
For graduate entry, Engineering offers two alternatives if you do not meet the minimum requirements above:
The University of Melbourne English Language Bridging Program (UMELBP)
The UMELBP provides a direct English language pathway from Hawthorn-Melbourne to specific courses at the University of Melbourne. Students who have achieved an IELTS band 0.5 lower than their University of Melbourne course entry requirement may be able to proceed directly to their University studies upon successful completion of the UMELBP. Engineering English Language Alternative Entry for Graduate Coursework Students
Under the Engineering English Language Alternative Entry for graduates, coursework students may enrol in an English language program at the University — this may add another semester to your program. Requirements for entry into this alternative pathway are:

If a condition of your offer is to meet the English Language requirements and you are eligible to undertake this program an enrolment form will be sent with your offer letter. (This program is not available for the Master of Information Systems.)
If you wish to undertake the Melbourne School of Engineering’s English language alternative please refer to the following table for information on how this will affect the duration and cost of your program:

Please note that the English Language Alternative course must be taken in the first semester of study. Students are only able to enrol in a maximum of three subjects per semester if undertaking this pathway, this includes the “Presenting Academic Discourse” subject taken in the first semester of study.

All students who undertake the English Language Alternative are required to pass the English program in order to be awarded the degree. Students who do not pass will be referred to the School’s unsatisfactory progress committee.
