Dairy wastewater treatment

Project description

The dairy industry is one of the most important rural industries in Australia. It is estimated that ~11 billion litres of wastewater is generated in the Australian dairy industry each year. This includes milk spills, cleaning chemicals, product rejects. Currently very little wastewater is reclaimed onsite due to its complex nature and the costs of operating local water treatment facilities. This project will investigate the reclamation of process water from dairy wastewater using membrane technology, to potentially reduce the cost of wastewater management and mitigate the environmental impact to the local communities.
