Exchange Scholarships

The Melbourne School of Engineering will provide scholarship assistance for living costs for students who are successful in obtaining an International Student Exchange Program placement.

The School Scholarship is a 'top-up' over and above the amount received from The Melbourne Scholarships Office and from other Central funding sources. Some Exchange universities also provide funding.

* Students should note that they will need to apply for Central funding and any additional financial assistance offered by the Melbourne Scholarship Office first before applying for the Melbourne School of Engineering 'Top-Up Funding'.

1. General exchange funding

Funding is available for all Engineering exchange placements. Students can choose to apply to one of the University's partner institutions.

2. UMAP funding

UMAP funding is availablef or selected partner universities.
See website for eligibility and university listing.
The Melbourne School of Engineering may offer bonus funds for some partners.

Students MUST be Australian citizens to apply for UMAP funding.

3. Cheung Kong Exchange funding

Funding is available for selected partner universities in China, Hong Kong and Korea.

4. Overseas university funding

Some partner universities have scholarships available to assist our students undertake Exchange.

5. Funding for short-term exchange programs

Funding is available for short-term exchange mobility programs offered through the School of Engineering.

6. Applying for funding

The Engineering 'Top-Up Funding' is only offered through the Melbourne School of Engineering.

Note: you will not be eligible for the School 'Top-Up Funding' unless you have applied for the Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarships and Other Funding

  • Students should note scholarships are limited and students must receive credit from the School of Engineering from their Exchange on their return, or refund the money.
  • UMAP and overseas university funding are awarded according to academic merit. Places are limited.
  • Overseas university funding may be subject to change.
What do I need to do to apply for Engineering 'top up funding'

Steps you must take before applying for the School of Engineering 'top-up funding':

1 Apply and secure a place at an International Exchange University
2 Apply for a Melbourne Abroad Scholarship and other Financial Assistance recommended through the Melbourne Scholarships Office.
3 Make an appointment to see Hiroko Miyano, School of Engineering (T: 8344 7114) bringing the following documents for the 'Top-Up Funding':
  • Letter of Request for School funding assistance
  • Copy of Letter of place offer from Exchange University
  • Copy of Letter/s of Financial Assistance awarded by Melbourne Scholarships Office and from other Central funding sources
  • Proof of airline booking
  • Completed banking details form (forms are available on request)
