Melbourne School of Engineering

Undergraduate Students

Overload policy

Second or later year students can apply to undertake up to 62.5 points per semester if they have:

  • an average of at least H2B in the previous semester
  • no fails in the previous semester
  • successfully completed at least 37.5 points in the previous semester

The H2B requirement may be waived for students in their final semester if an overload of 62.5 points will enable the student to complete course requirements.

All requests for overloading must be made to the Melbourne School of Engineering Office directly. This can be done in person (by filling out an Application to Change Subjects form) or by email to a course advisor.

If a student applies for and receives approval to overload, the student must ensure that they have chosen subjects that have no timetable clashes, or approval will be withdrawn.

Student must be aware that by choosing to overload they might achieve lower results and jeopardise their chances of qualifying for honours. Overloading is not grounds for special consideration.

Permission to overload depends on the results you achieve in the previous semester, i.e. requests to overload in semester 2 cannot be accepted or considered by the School until semester 1 results are released.

For further information please speak to a course advisor.
