AssessmentHow your work is assessed depends on the course and subjects you are taking. Generally, assessment is made on the basis of assignments, essays, tutorial work and practical work. There may also be formal written examinations at the end of each semester or at the end of the academic year. Select from the following menu for more information:

The first three digits of a subject indicates the Faculty/School and teaching Department:
- Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering 411-
- Civil & Environmental Engineering 421-
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering 431-
- Mechanical Engineering 436-
- Computer Science & Software Engineering 433-
- Geomatics 451-
Subjects commencing with numbers other than the above (i.e. 333-; 316-; 325-) are from the Faculty of Economics & Commerce and 145- from the Faculty of Arts. Details of these subjects are available from those Faculties/School (Economics & Commerce; Arts)
The fourth digit of a subject code indicates the level, e.g. 1, 2, 3, & 4 are undergraduate subjects from years 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. A fourth digit of 5, 6, 7 or 8 indicates that a subject is a graduate level subject.
Attendance at lectures
Once you have enrolled you are expected to attend all classes (lectures, tutorials, practical work etc.( and submit all set assignments. If you do not meet these conditions, you may be excluded from examinations in the subject concerned.
It is important, therefore, to keep informed of the requirements of each subject you undertake. Make sure that you obtain all programs, instructions and guidelines issued by staff.
Exam timetables
The University offers an online exam timetable for its students and it can be accessed from any computer within the university. This service is available from the SIS website here.
Results
The University of Melbourne has an online system where a student can obtain their subject and course related results via the internet. The Student Results Service is located here.
History of Results website
Use this service to order a free report of your results history (including all subjects completed in previous years). The report will be sent via email to your central University mail account which you are allocated on enrolment. The History of Results website is located here.
