Alumni News
Alumni Welcome to Melbourne program
In the initial stages of the international student experience, students face a range of challenges when adjusting to their new environment. Feeling comfortable in their new surroundings can have an enormous impact on each student’s ability to do well in their studies and benefit from all the things Melbourne has to offer. The Welcome to Melbourne program was established to give alumni the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of some of our international students by inviting alumni to host an international AusAID student in their home for dinner.
The program is coordinated by the Alumni Relations and International Student Services offices at the University of Melbourne, who make every attempt to match students with alumni based on shared interests and preferences. More information on the program and registration details can be found here.
Alumni-led Tours of the Campus
Alumni are invited to join the University for free guided tours of the Parkville campus. These tours, led by alumni, will showcase and highlight some of the places of cultural and historical significance on campus. The dates have been set to coincide with other major events that are also happening on campus. Click here for more information and the current schedule.
Conversation at Masani
Alumni are invited to join the University for a Conversation at Masani in 2009. This series has been organised to provide alumni with the opportunity to take part in an intimate, challenging and thought-provoking conversation with a fellow alumnus. Click here for more information and the current schedule.
Director's Tours of the Potter for Alumni
Alumni are now able to book online for for a series of exclusive Director's Tours of the Potter Museum of Art in 2009. This series has been organised to provide alumni from any Faculty with the opportunity to be guided, by either Director Dr Chris McAuliffe, one of the gallery's curators or a guest curator, through six of the major exhibitions at the Potter.
Each tour will conclude with wine and cheese and the opportunity to network with fellow alumni. Tours are free of charge, but places are limited and alumni are encouraged to reserve their place early to avoid disappointment. Click here for more information and the current schedule.
Volunteers sought for cerebral palsy research
Alumni are invited to participate in research aimed at improving treatments for cerebral palsy. Dr Yi-Chung Lin in the Biomechanical Engineering research group (Department of Mechanical Engineering) is hoping to recruit healthy children aged 7-12 to participate in some simple biomechanical experiments. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated; for more information and contact details please see this flyer.
