50 Years & Over Lunch — 29 April 2011
The 20th annual 50 years and over lunch saw almost 170 alumni and their guests return to campus on a sunny autumn afternoon. The lunch was once again held at Trinity College and was also an opportunity to celebrate 150 years of Engineering education at the University of Melbourne. Guests were welcomed by Roy Hardcastle AO (BE(Civil) 1948), a member of the 150th anniversary committee. Deputy Dean, Professor Peter Scales then acknowledged the new and most senior alumni in attendance as well as paying tribute to those who had passed away.
Following lunch Patron of the 150th anniversary, Professor Emeritus Len Stevens AM spoke about the scholarship appeal which has been established in his name. Professor Geoff Stevens (PhD 1981) from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering then spoke about Australia as an ongoing energy super power which initiated much lively discussion.
A special highlight this year was the guessing of a mystery engineering object!
