Melbourne School of Engineering

Alumni: How you can contribute

Engineering Mentor Scheme

Each year, the Faculty of Engineering runs an Engineering Mentoring Scheme to provide students with individual assistance to cope with the move to tertiary study or planning the leap into employment. First and second year students are paired with later year students and third and fourth year students are paired with industry mentors.

For further information, please go to the mentoring webpage.

Graduate Profiles

Students interested in studying in the Faculty of Engineering are always seeking information about where their engineering, computer science or geomatics degree can take them. One of the best way for us to demonstrate the broad range of opportunities available to them after they successfully complete their degree is to provide them with examples of the diverse positions and organisations that our graduates work in.

The Faculty is always interested in hearing from our alumni to find out the paths their career has taken them on. Profiles we gather from our alumni may be used in publications for prospective students, on our website or our alumni e-newsletter. Permission is always sought from alumni before profiles are published.

Feedback

Staff in the Faculty of Engineering are constantly seeking to improve the services we provide our prospective, current and past students. We seek feedback in a number of different ways - through formal surveys and questionnaires, industry liaison bodies and through more informal anecdotal networks.

We strongly encourage our recent graduates to complete the Course Experience Questionnaire that is circulated in the year following completion of the course as it provides the Faculty with invaluable feedback on how our courses are perceived by our students.

We also welcome comment from our more senior alumni who may be in the position of hiring graduates. They are able to tell us whether you believe our graduates possess the necessary skills to commence a career in engineering, computer science or geomatics, what the strengths of our graduates are and identify any weaknesses. They may also be able to identify new developments within their industry that may impact on what the Faculty should teach its students.

Donating to the Faculty

Donations from our alumni and friends enable the Faculty of Engineering to provide improved levels of support and services for our students. In recent years, the Faculty has utilised the funds it has received through the Annual Appeal to contribute to the development of new teaching and research space. The Faculty has experienced enormous growth in student numbers in the past decade, and it now has a student population of over 4000. One of the biggest challenges facing the Faculty is to provide new teaching and research space and ensure students have access to work-class laboratory and computer facilities. Contributions directed to the Faculty through the University's Annual Appeal or direct to the Faculty can assist us to meet this challenge. All donations to the Faculty are tax-deductible.
