  • What do we look for?

  • What are our processes?

    Once you have found a role that interests you, take some time to prepare.   • What should I expect when I apply?

  • Do I need to address the key selection criteria?

    Only if you have been requested to do so in the advertisement.

    We no longer required selection criteria for Professional roles; and many of the academic roles are now removing this requirement also.

  • How long does the process take?

    Once you have applied, the application will be reviewed against our key criteria and values. While this process may take time, we aim to contact candidates within a week of the advertising closing date. We will update you on your progress throughout the various stages of the recruitment process via email or phone.

  • Do you support those with disabilities?

    We strive to ensure an inclusive community. This includes supporting candidates who identify as living with a disability through the recruitment process. We can also aim to provide necessary adjustments to support your success.

  • What is the selection process?

    The selection process here will differ based upon the role you have applied for. We may conduct a series of interview questions, request you present or ask you to complete an assessment, additionally the list of stages below gives a good indication of the steps that may be included as part of your selection process.

    • Conversation with a Talent Acquisition team member
    • Automated video interview questions
    • Behavioural interview with the Manager and Human Resources
    • Workplace behaviour ability and psychometric assessments
    • Sociability – come along and meet the people you will be working with every day and see where you will be working

    We will keep you up-to-date throughout the process, and let you know what to expect at each step.

  • What does a typical Academic interview process look like?

    Our preference is always to meet you in person, thus the final stage of our process will usually be a campus visit where we will fly you to Melbourne to visit our beautiful and historic campus.

    Please note we do on occasion make changes to our preferred approach (eg: in response to the global pandemic and travel restrictions) and have the capability and flexibility to move as much of the selection process as necessary to the virtual on-line environment.

  • A typical Academic selection process will include some or all the following:
    • Pre-interview via zoom (aprox 30mins to commence your engagement with our academics)
    • Seminar / presentation (in person coupled with campus visit; or where necessary via Zoom)
    • Formal panel interview (in person coupled with campus visit; or where necessary via Zoom)
    • 1:1 Meetings (in person with on campus visit; where necessary via Zoom)
  • Will you be conducting background checks?

    Yes. This may include a police check, a reference check and a working with children check. These processes will help us to determine your suitability to work for the University.

  • How long until I hear back about your decision?

    This process may take some time, as we like to ensure we are hiring the most appropriate and qualified person for the role. Thank you for your patience.
