Master of Engineering (Geomatics)
Geomatic engineers study the science and technologies of measurement, mapping and visualisation. For example, they work on satellite and photographic image processing, three dimensional computer visualisations and global positioning systems.
This specialisation emphasises team-based project work, problem-solving and industry interaction, with internship opportunities available to students with selected firms and government departments.
Through the course, students gain practical skills and highly sought after technical knowledge to prepare for careers in land and/or asset management for government, banks or property firms, or as surveyors in mining, construction and land agencies, among others.
Entry Requirements
Admission to the Master of Engineering requires at least 65% GPA in the final two years of undergraduate study.
Pathways to the Master of Engineering (Geomatics) include:
University of Melbourne New Generation undergraduate degrees in the following:
- Bachelor of Environments (Geomatics) (3 years) followed by the Master of Engineering (Geomatics) (2 years, points)
- Bachelor of Science (Geomatics) (3 years) followed by the Master of Engineering (Geomatics) (2 years, points)
Any other bachelor degree:
Students graduating from any (minimum 3-year) degree program who have completed the equivalent of 25 points of first-year mathematics (any) and 25 points of science (a broad interpretation of the sciences, which may include geography, psychology, environments subjects and archeology or other equivalent subjects) may be admitted to the psoint (3-year) Master of Engineering (Geomatics).
For information about credit for prior studies please visit entry requirements.

Note on Engineering Electives:
Any Engineering Elective requires the approval of the Geomatics Course Coordinator.
Credits:
Any subjects or equivalents already taken in an UG degree would not need to be replaced.
Additional Notes:
* The 3YME program incorporates all core subjects from the provisionally accredited 3YB+2YME program.
* The elective content of the 3YB+2YME program is effectively covered by the student's first degree.
